Red Clutch

I made this bag as a tote big enough for paperwork, but it wasn't talking to me. After removing the handles and folding over the top edge to reveal the bright red interior it looks a lot better. The cuts in the wool closed up quite a bit as the wool shrank.

Celtic Cross

The inside layer of wool is white corriedale, andthe middle layer is the multi-colored BFL in Redwood Forest. I hope the colors all show through the white to make a lighter colored interior but still showing the lovely shades of blue, green and brown. The exterior is natural brown with a little blue and green carded in.

I made a length of felt out of the BFL to cut up for the design which I will felt in place. After it is felted the plan is to use the green yarn to add the detail to the Celtic cross. The template for the cross was an image from layeducation.org. By the time the felted project is complete it may not resemble the original at all!

Falkland & Shetland Wool Bag With Curly Locks

I love the curly locks on this bag. All of the wool is undyed. The gray is Shetland, the white is Falkland, and the curly locks are Lincoln lamb. There is blue and white upcycled cotton nuno felted in the "window" surrounded by faux pearl beads. The strap is an upcycled leather belt. This bag didn't shrink anywhere near as much as the merino bag in the previous post, which was made on the same mold.

Handbag for a Friend

This was a gift I made for a friend. The inside of the bag is white and the exterior is black, but felted together it looks gray. I sandwiched some assorted brown fiber in between layers so they would peek out where I snipped the surface with scissors. The wool is merino and the handle is an upcycled belt.

A Work in Progress?

Even though it has a strap and a magnetic closure I'm not sure this bag is done. I've been looking at it for ages without the top folded over and it just wasn't working out. Folding the top over and buttoning it down helped. The strap made it even better. The flower still might get more needle felting. I'm really pleased with the bright yellow happy pocket interior.

Summer Handbags With a Pop of Color

I had a bag full of seashells that I've wanted to incorporate into a felted bag. I thought about felting a face and using the shells for eyes, but the lavender color might have looked either creepy or vacant. Anyway, I like them just as plain shells with some art yarn scribbled around them.

The cotton batik inside really pops. I think I will make a bunch of these handbags in different bright colors just because they make me happy.

This bag has been sitting on my desk staring at me for ages.It was so plain it was painful! The size and shape were all right, but the design was seriously lacking. Finally I covered the blue felted stripe with a summery cotton batik and added trim around the inside edge and along the handles. I'm not sure if it's finished yet, but it's looking much better.

Here's an inspiration photo and a project in progress photo for comparison. The flower still needs some attention before I wet felt it. This will be a handbag when it's done. The wool underneath the green is a natural buff color which will work its way through. Maybe a bit of dark brown in the background will make the flower pop?

Another Organic Earth-tone Bag

This was felted with undyed merino batts on upcycled silk organza. The outside has silk hankies felted in, but the sheen of the silk was lost in all of the wool fiber. The silk hankies are cobweb fine. The strap is a repurposed leather belt laced in place beneath the folded over part. There is almost a pound of wool in this large tote bag!

The lady who bought it is planning to use it as her BSF bag to carry her three ring binder and bible to class.

Quilted Felt

I didn't originally intend to quilt the polka dots on the bag. The merino wool is nuno felted onto red silk and the red dye ran and tinged the white pink! The pink and brown didn't look very good, so I felted a piece of white with brown polka dots. The dots are the same color brown as the bag, but I put the darker side in to make it look more interesting. But I was afraid the white would slide around if I only sewed the perimeter, so the obvious solution was to quilt each dot, anchoring the white in place.

The handles are belts that have been repurposed into handles.

I like larger bags like this to have a flat bottom so you can set them on the floor without them falling over.

The Purse That Should Have Been A Tote Bag

I laid out wool on a mold to make a flat bottomed tote bag...

And then I felted it with Dr. Bronner's organic soap and water. But after fulling it and shocking it it was too small for a 3 ring binder, so now with the addition of a repurposed belt it is a flat bottomed bucket purse.

Felted Purses

Here are three of the purses I made for the Denton Craft Show. They all are inspired by nature. Pebbles in a riverbed, the littoral area at the beach, and a birch tree. The birch tree is nuno felted on linen.

Unfelted Pebbled Purse

This is the start of a purse with gray prefelt pebbles. I want it to look like river stones when it is finished. It has a two resists, so it will have an interior pocket when it is felted.

Shirtfront Bag

I wanted to use the placket front of a shirt with the buttons on in a project. The curly locks are needle felted on. I might do another one of these in different colors.
